Welcome to Eva's Initiatives

Eva's Initiatives works with homeless and at-risk youth ages 16 to 24 to get them off the streets permanently. We operate three shelters in the Greater Toronto Area that house 122 youth each night.

Our shelters provide homeless youth with emergency and transitional housing, harm reduction services to address drug and alcohol use, counselling, employment and training programs, housing support and services to reconnect youth with their families. Each year we help over 2,300 homeless and at-risk youth to get off the street, find housing and community supports, and begin to rebuild their futures.

Eva's Initiatives is very proud that our National Initiatives Program has been selected as one of the 2007 Shared Interest Citizens Bank of Canada recipients. Every year, Citizens Bank of Canada members nominate federally registered not-for-profit organizations that serve communities in Canada and around the world in one of four categories: Environment, Economic Self-Reliance, Human Rights and International Cooperation, and Community and Family Health.

An Advisory Committee narrows the list of recipients to twelve groups — three for each category and voting among members determines the amount of the grant received.

Eva's is honoured to have been nominated, and to stand in the company of the other 11 recipients. The Shared Interest grant will be used for the Staff Exchange Program of the National Initiatives.

The Staff Exchange was developed by the National Youth Homelessness Learning Community Members and is being implemented for the first time this spring. The Staff Exchange provides hands-on learning for staff from agencies across the country who can visit and learn from their peers in the youth serving sector. The Staff Exchange is a unique skill development and information sharing opportunity, designed to increase the capacity of agencies working with homeless and at-risk youth. We are grateful for the support from Citizens Bank members in our work.
